Beginner Guide: Your First Dungeon Dive

Your starting point for basic combat, monster powers, and a sensible first session in the free demo.

Welcome to the dungeon

Davy starts as a timid zombie, but the premise of Stupid Never Dies is rapid growth. Your first session should be about understanding the actions and systems the game introduces, rather than chasing an unverified endgame build.

This pre-launch guide follows information published for the free First Bite Demo. Exact inputs, available gear, and balance should always be checked in the current in-game tutorial.

Your first session — step by step

  1. Start the First Bite Demo. It introduces the beginning of the story and the core gameplay loop. The official announcement describes approximately two hours of content.
  2. Learn the basic actions. Practice punches, kicks, and parries as they appear in the tutorial. Check the control settings instead of assuming a button layout.
  3. Try Bite and Style Eat. These are related parts of the game's identity, but read their tutorial prompts carefully. Style Eat uses elite monster cores to give Davy new powers and forms.
  4. Inspect Body Hack. Notice how installed Overtech gear changes the abilities available to you, not just the appearance of your character.
  5. Watch for Davy Burst. The special state temporarily boosts Davy's abilities. Learn its activation conditions from the game before planning around it.
  6. Explore the shopping mall. This home base contains allies who support your progress between dungeon dives.

Understand the three core systems

Style Eat: powers and forms

The full game advertises 11 combat Styles, including the starting Zombie Style. Consuming elite monster cores lets Davy take their powers. This changes how he looks and fights; it is more than a cosmetic outfit system.

Read the Style Eat field note before comparing transformations. The full game's advertised Style count does not mean every Style is available in the demo.

Body Hack: modify your options

Overtech gear modifies Davy's body and can affect stats and skills. When you gain access to an upgrade, look at what it lets you do during a fight. The Body Hack guide explains the distinction between a combat Style and installed gear.

Davy Burst: temporary power

Davy Burst brings his imagination into reality and increases his abilities for a limited time. Treat your first activation as a chance to observe the change. The Davy Burst note suggests a simple practice routine.

A useful practice routine

Change one thing, then test it. You will understand a new Style or gear piece faster when you can tell what changed.

  • Use a short encounter to learn your reach and movement.
  • Try a new form before stacking several unfamiliar upgrades.
  • Read the tutorial when the game introduces a system.
  • Revisit the mall and speak to the allies available there.

These are practice suggestions, not a claim that one build is strongest or that an enemy has a fixed weakness.

Before you finish the demo

The official demo page confirms that save data can carry over into the full version. Avoid deleting a completed save just to replay a section without first checking current instructions and understanding the consequence.
